Knowledge Transfer Partnership funds university researcher at PSA

14th September 2018

In September, Dr S. Lakshmy began her role as KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) Research Associate at PSA, with academic support from Cranfield School of Management. With a background in management, finance and development economics, and a PhD in Consumption Inequality from the University of Calcutta, Lakshmy’s research will find new and more effective ways to transform supply chains.

KTP is a UK-wide scheme and one of Europe’s leading programmes. It helps businesses to improve their competitiveness by enabling them to work with educational institutions to gain knowledge, technology or skills which they consider to be of strategic advantage. The programme is co-funded and overseen by Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, and is supported by 16 public sector funding organisations.

PSA and Cranfield School of Management are looking to establish an economic framework for health, human capital and economic growth in low and middle-income countries (LMICs), especially in Africa. The framework will be integrated into the prevalent supply chain systems in those countries to improve procurement strategies, cost-effectiveness, and other critical functions.

Lakshmy’s research will deepen PSA’s knowledge of public health supply chains in LMICs and develop an economic model for the sustainable transformation of the health supply chain that can be adapted to specific countries.

‘This is one of the first instances of academia interfacing with the operational supply chain – a truly innovative strategy that may encourage future collaboration. I am excited to draw from my academic experience, from the models of growing economies, and from the wealth of knowledge at PSA and Cranfield University to make a difference to public health supply chain on the ground.’
